Intradermal Injections for keloid

Keloids are thick scar tissue that forms because the body over-defends itself as a result of trauma or surgical treatments. Keloid scars are sometimes accompanied by pain and itching.

Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars are are treated by latest techniques of Intralesional Therapy, Intralesional Steroid Injection, Intra lesional Cryo Therapy, Freezing Cryo Surgery, & Non-abladive Fractional Lasers. The treatments include:

  • Cortisone Injections: These are safe and not very painful .Injections are usually given once per month until the maximum benefit is obtained .Injections are safe (very little steroid gets into the blood stream) and usually help flatten keloids.
  • Laser: The pulsed dye laser can be effective at flattening keloids and making them look less red.Treatment is safe and not very painful, but several treatment session may be needed.
  • Fractional Laser Treatment: Scar treatment requires deep energy penetration through the epidermis and into the reticular dermis to activate a dramatic healing response. For every micro thermal zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This 'fractional' treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections.  The texture, pliability and symptoms of scars can improve significantly after a few treatments. Results are long lasting and reoccurrence are rare.
  • Cryotherapy: Freezing keloids with liquid nitrogen can flatten the scar
  • Contact Cryo: In this we use dip stick method, in which we directly apply the applicator over the keloid, freeze it completely. 3-4 thaw freeze cycles are needed.
  • Cryo-spray: In this, we directly spray the liquid nitrogen over the keloid to freeze the keloid completely. 2-3 thaw freeze cycles are needed. It gives better result as compared to contact cryo.

Intralesional Cryo: This is the latest cryo treatment for the keloid. We inject the cryogen, liquid nitrogen inside the keloid till the time the keloid is completely frozen. It takes few minutes to thaw. Done by sterile cryo needles. In combination with intrlesional steroid, cryo therapy gives the best results.
